UNIQUELY CANADIAN

Considering the multicultural context of such a fast growing nation, one has to consider what is the culture of Canada.  After extensive research we came to understand that Canada - although housing a numerous array culture’s and ethnicities - is nation that does not truly have a succinct culture.

I then began to think of the things that bind all Canadians - our land and resources.  One of the common key stereotypes and images of Canada is that of the maple tree.  It is on our flag, and occupies many of our backyards.  Maple syrup extraction is a tradition that defines Canadians, which in return inspired this product.  The form, and aesthetics of the object is meant to simulate a tree trunk with a elongated branch.  The clean, frosted material evokes a sense of the icy winters of Canada.

Modularity and Effective Processes

Re.Lapse is a collapsible lamp exploring the structural capabilities of common low density polymers, and their elegant and effective way of diffusing light.  The lamp consists of low density polyethylene that organically folds and unfolds in a matter of seconds.  The lamp can be used in a variety of contexts and pays homage to modern values of universality, and contemporary concerns regarding overuse of materials and inefficient packaging.

SiloDome

One of the most common complaints amoung residents of large cities is the noise pollution.  From vehicles, to shouting homeless people, to the clocking of high-heels, the chaos of noise something many of us try to escape.  People go camping, taking vacations to seemingly get out of the audio mess. What if there was a place in the city where people could truly escape the noise?

The silo dome has both an external and internal function of reducing noise within a given environment.  Structurally, the use of inclined land masses, couple with trees strategically place in the park, significantly cuts down environmental noise.  The dome structure is a type of stadium that further reduces environmental noise while fostering creative discussion.  Theoretically, the dome is a setting where people can freely, and quietly work away from the chaotic mess of the city.
